Dr. Jude Milcé, the director of the Hospital of the State University of Haiti (HUEH), made the announcement during this morning’s episode of Panel Magik. He offered the hospital’s resident doctors an almost 40% pay raise. The Ministry of Public Health and Population, according to Dr. Milcé, organized this adjustment.
The resident doctors at the HUEH, who have been on strike since last December in protest of poor working conditions, appear to have finally been heard by the health authorities. In fact, Dr. Jude Milcé, the hospital’s executive director, revealed that the Ministry of Public Health and Population is granting the strikers an almost 40% adjustment. He emphasized that he was unable to establish whether doctors had resumed their services.

Regarding the hospital’s electrical issue, which is one of the strikers’ demands, Dr. Milcé stated that he cannot ensure 24 hour electricity at HUEH without the assistance of the HRE. Yet it will help to make the situation better. ”
Some 10,000 gallons of fuel for the functioning of the medical facility, he said, would be provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). But, they won’t be given out until services are resumed, according to HUEH number 1. Also, Dr. Jude Milcé advised “to take all the necessary steps for the hospital’s services to resume, even though all of the residents’ claims have not yet been met.”
