Luis Gilberto Murillo, the Foreign Minister, affirmed that efforts were being made by the Colombian government to secure the return of former soldiers who have been detained in Haiti since 2021 on charges of involvement in President Jovenel Moïse’s killing.
The Foreign Affairs Minister stated that he and the Colombian Minister of Justice, Néstor Osuna, are assessing how to come to an arrangement with the Haitian government that would permit Colombians who are being held there to proceed with their legal proceedings or maybe be tried in Colombia.
We are hoping that by working with Minister Osuna and our consul, we can develop the system and, if necessary, repatriate individuals who may be facing a sentence while determining the best course of action.
