Following the ratification of new immigration laws, the Belizean government announced measures regarding Haitian nationals’ admission requirements into CARICOM countries on Friday, March 31, 2023. (and of Jamaica).
According to Prime Minister John Briceo, the Cabinet decided to enact Section 226 (a) of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, which regulates the 15-member regional integration movement that includes Jamaica and Haiti, in light of the rising number of visitors from these two nations using Belize as a transit country in an effort to enter the United States illegally.
The Minister of Immigration may demand Jamaican nationals seeking to go to Belize to show proof of fully paid, non-refundable hotel reservations before boarding flights to Belize under Article 226(a) of the treaty.
