The Court of Appeal of Port-au-Prince ordered the provisional release of Edwine Tonton, former director of the Social Assistance Fund (CAS), and Pierre Richard Valès, former chief accountant of the same institution, this Wednesday August 21, 2024, for humanitarian reasons. Ms. Tonton was imprisoned on April 25, 2023, after her hearing by investigating judge Jean Wilner Morin, on charges of influence peddling and embezzlement. As for Pierre Richard Valès, he faced charges of embezzlement of public funds and illegal taking of interests, leading to his incarceration in the national penitentiary.
