Since assuming office in November 2024, Jean-Michel Moïse, the Minister of Defense, has intensified efforts to bolster the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H), firmly believing that their role is vital to Haiti’s sovereignty and security. His focus has been on modernization initiatives and fostering international cooperation.
The visit to Haiti by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, accompanied by Defense Minister Pedro Arnulfo Sanchez Suarez, confirmed the successful conclusion of negotiations concerning enhanced collaboration, particularly in the area of military training. Although no formal agreement was signed on July 19, Colombia, in response to Minister Moïse’s outreach, has pledged to train 1,000 recruits for the Haitian Armed Forces in the upcoming months, subject to the official signing of an agreement.
Additionally, Minister Moïse announced that 150 new recruits from the FAd’H will soon depart for Mexico to undergo advanced training.
This regional partnership, which also involves Panama and other allied nations, aims to develop a modern, well-equipped, highly trained, efficient, and fully operational Haitian military force.
“Our young men and women are proud to serve their country in the army. They will soon be responsible for safeguarding our security. We are committed to strengthening our armed forces. We honor their sacrifices and dedication to serving the nation. The Haitian Armed Forces are eternal,” Minister Moïse stated.
