A strained relationship exists between Mr. Jean-Baptiste and the Port-au-Prince Bar Association, which recently sought to block the lawyer—who is registered with the Aquin Bar Association—from seeking a position within its jurisdiction. Mr. Jean-Baptiste subsequently condemned what he referred to as intimidation and professional harassment. In response to his summons, the lawyer expressed his resolve: “We will not retreat, we are not afraid. I have no concerns. Mr. Jean-Baptiste escalated his allegations further: he accused the Port-au-Prince Bar Association and the DCPJ of being involved in a supposed conspiracy and asserted that he had been the target of an assassination attempt during a prior visit to the police institution’s premises. Engaged in numerous sensitive cases—including inquiries into organ trafficking, the Unibank scandal, and corruption within the judicial system—Mr. Jean-Baptiste insists he remains steadfast despite the pressure. “I will speak out before they take my life,” he warned, cautioning against any efforts to remove him from his legal pursuits.
